MTL 2
mtl 2 is very near and dear to my heart. With these pieces, I feel like I’ve really been able to exert control over the clay-- where throwing to me prior felt like the clay was doing whatever it wanted and I was just a lucky bystander-- now I find myself able to contort the clay in ways that I want it to go. In all the bowls, cups, vases, mugs, etc. I can see that my style is beginning to emerge.
My favorite pieces are twisted brothers, split glaze jar, and the cracked handle mug.
I had the photoshoot for this series in front of my freshman year dorm in the vibrant grass on a spring morning. I wanted to create the effect of the collection being a part of the nature and also convey the idea of being ‘in bloom’. Not only because it was created in the late winter and early spring, but also because this series also represents me coming into my own as a potter.
